Faculty Certificate in Online Teaching

The Faculty Certificate in Online Teaching is a hybrid online learning experience designed to equip faculty with evidence-based tools and strategies to design and teach online courses that help students learn. The program guides participants through the process of designing or revising an online or hybrid summer/winter or graduate course. Participants engage with a cohort of faculty peers to share ideas and give and receive feedback on teaching materials. Faculty who are new to online teaching gain a practical toolbox of teaching strategies and materials while faculty with previous online teaching experience have the option to complete an advanced track to deepen their skills. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a stipend. 

Program Outcomes 

By the end of the program, participants will be able to: 

• Build or refine a practice of teaching-related critical reflection. 
• Identify evidence-based teaching practices that create inclusive and equitable learning experiences for diverse students in online courses. 
• Develop measurable course learning outcomes for an online course. 
• Design assessments to effectively measure course learning outcomes in online contexts. 
• Identify active learning strategies and practices and apply them in online contexts. 
• Build active learning lesson plans for online class sessions and modules. 
• Discuss classroom management strategies for online courses. 
• Develop or revise a syllabus for an online course. 
• Create a plan for online course delivery using appropriate technology.
